The Policing Team for the Lincoln City Centre have organised a different way of spreading community safety messages to shoppers on the High Street.
Theysecured the services of Town Crier Karen Crowe to announce advice and safety tips in the run up to Christmas, and on one of the busiest shopping days in the year.
Town Crier Karen Crowe was in the Lincoln centre to demonstrate that community safet is something to shout about. Karen spread the word on how to keep safe in the run up to Christmas following a number of purse thefts in the area.
The initiative is designed not to alarm shoppers but to deliver a message in a memorable way. The reminders included advice on keeping your belongings in view, making sure handbags and bags are zipped up and secure and not leaving Christmas gifts on view in your car.
PCSO Clair Hart said: “We don’t want to scare shoppers but at the same time we would be happy to warn off any would be offenders with these messages! The town centre will be very busy and the week before Christmas would be a horrible time to have your belongings stolen. We want to minimise the chance of residents and visitors being the victim of a crime in the centre and this method ensures that the message will be heard. We always give advice to people about their security but this seemed a really novel way of doing it. We are very grateful to Karen who is giving up her own time to help us get this message across.”
