Banned from one, you’re banned from them all. That’s the message being sent to troublemakers as licensed premises come together in Kirkburton in a newly formed Pubwatch scheme in West Yorkshire.
It involves eight members and works with the Kirkburton Neighbourhood Policing Team and Kirklees Licensing.
The aim of the scheme is to create a safe, secure, social drinking environment in all licensed premises to help prevent drink-related crime, disorder and underage drinking.
PCSO Judith Brimicombe of the Kirkburton Neighbourhood Policing Team has been working with the pubs and said: “The scheme has been set up by local pubs in Kirkburton to ensure they are all aware of incidents where bar staff or customers have been intimidated by certain individuals.
“All its partners work together to ensure members of the public can go out and enjoy themselves in a safe and friendly environment.
“It enables them to maintain contact and allows licensees to alert each other of any trouble prior to it occurring.
“I think it sends our a clear message that anyone who commits any type of disorder or makes threats in any pub in the Kirkburton area will not only be banned from that pub but all the pubs within the Pubwatch scheme.
“With regular meetings it is much easier to track and deal with problem behaviour by warning or ultimately barring people. The Police will be going along to the next meeting of the Pubwatch scheme which is on Friday, October 2 at 10am at the The Foxglove on Penistone Road.
“Not only will the Pubwatch scheme remove troublemakers from licensed premise, but it should also have a positive impact on crime in general. The people that the scheme deals with are often those that the police encounter for other offences. Therefore barring the relevant people has a positive impact on all types of crime from antisocial behaviour to robbery and burglary.”
