United Parcels Service (UPS) has to secure its new London distribution hub while allowing around the clock access.

As part of a worldwide carrier and package delivery network, United Parcels Service (UPS) has to secure its new London distribution hub while allowing around the clock access. The UPS distribution and vehicle servicing centre at Camden, North London, is part of a global network of distribution hubs responsible for handling more than 12 million packages and documents every day. Safeguarding of customers? property in transit is an absolute priority for UPS. The company went to tender for the supply of an effective, yet simple to operate CCTV surveillance system. The installer, AsPro UK of Wigan, specified Ultrak CCTV equipment. Controlled from a purpose-built security lodge, the system has a mix of internal and externally located Ultrak KD6 UltraDomes. There is colour surveillance of the site?s key entry and exit points, perimeter fencing, car parks, loading bays, vehicle workshops and the package sorting process. The CCTV system combines the UltraDome?s pre-set scene positioning and Redwall sensor activated alarm inputs for monitoring of external incidents. UPS also use the cameras as a management tool in the site?s package and parcels control and distribution process. Managers have visual information to put to use in staff training, and health and safety issues are flagged up. Roy Hatton, UPS? Security Manager says: ?Complementing on-site manned guarding, AsPro?s Ultrak Diamond keyboard control based system offered us the best value solution, notably with its level of surveillance coverage, protection and performance against budget.? Supported by real time digital recording, if required, the system is capable of providing evidential quality video footage.
