Second Award

by msecadm4921

Following a recent regional ‘Best Team’ award, OCS Security, a division of property support services company OCS, has now become the first team to win the BSIA national team of the year award for a second successive year.

The OCS team based at Aberafan Shopping Centre in Port Talbot, South Wales, has received recognition from the British Security Industry Association for its service to the centre and the town itself. In addition to their high profile work in controlling anti-social behaviour, the whole team has trained as volunteer responders for the Welsh ambulance service in Port Talbot. Award judges heard that the staff’s ever visible presence and willingness to help the public is key to their success which can be measured by the statistics showing a reduction in crime.

What they say

OCS Security managing director Richard Fenton Jones said: "The team at Aberafan show tremendous professionalism and dedication to the local community, and I’m delighted to see their achievements recognised in this way for the second year running."

The team work closely with local police, and were recently involved in enforcing a Criminal Anti Social Behaviour Order (CRASBO) on one persistent lawbreaker. This particular case was a national first as OCS security staff gave all the submitted evidence. It not only helped the Aberafan Shopping Centre but also excluded the offender from entering any retail premises in Port Talbot and the nearby town of Neath. The shopping centre reports no unoccupied retail units and a continued increase in the number of visitors to the shopping centre

Steve Redmore, manager of the Aberafan Shopping Centre, added: "Once again, we are delighted to win this award for the second consecutive year. The team are totally committed to ensuring the centre is a safe, secure and welcoming place for all our visitors. They are a dedicated team, who perform above and beyond their normal day-to-day duties and thrive on the challenges that a shopping centre poses. Credit must also be given to the OCS management team, who fully support and commit to the teams success. "

OCS chief executive Chris Cracknell endorsed these views and added that the Aberafan Team are a credit to the security division and fervent ambassadors of the company’s philosophy.
