A sales manager of a Bradford manufacturer of security roller shutters and grilles has developed a locking device which seeks to prevent thieves taking advantage of a common failing in shutters of a certain size.
The problem arises due to an intrinsic design weakness in small to medium sized shutters across all manufacturers which enables them with the correct know-how, to be easily opened in seconds even if the shutter is locked. Henry Lewis & Son has been trialling its invention over the past year with no successful break-ins, and is confident that this gadget, which can be retro-fitted to nearly any security shutter, will save homes and businesses from burglaries. Brett Smith, sales manager of the company and husband of managing director Suzanne, is the lead inventor of the device: “Following a spate of call-outs following successful break-ins, I realised that there was an intrinsic fault with the design of certain sized roller shutters, across all manufacturers, which enables it to be opened even if it is locked. Our device rectifies this problem and means that the criminals, who are increasingly aware of this weakness, will not be able to access the secured property.”
