Bus operator Stagecoach has signed what is thought to be the UK’s largest single order for CCTV in buses in the UK.
A £1.2m deal will ensure all new buses ordered by Stagecoach in 2006-07 will be fitted with digital CCTV systems from Look CCTV, the mobile CCTV division of Quadnetics Group plc. Stagecoach reports that it is spending £50m on a fleet of 460 new buses over the next year. Les Warneford, Managing Director of Stagecoach UK Bus, said: "This latest investment is part of our ongoing commitment to the safety and security of our passengers and our drivers. Buses are the country’s most popular form of public transport and crime on buses is extremely low. However, even the fear of crime can act as a deterrent to travel. CCTV has a proven track record of making passengers feel safe, cutting crime and anti-social behaviour and helping track down offenders." Lancashire-based Look CCTV adds that it has supplied CCTV to the bus operator’s fleet in London and in other places across the UK since 2002. Andrew Prince, Managing Director, Look CCTV, said: "Stagecoach and Look CCTV have enjoyed a long and productive relationship over a number of years. Their decision to award us this largest ever contract for CCTV is recognition of our ability to deliver cutting-edge CCTV systems and support services."
