Stopping Dumping

Caerphilly County Borough Council sought to eliminate trespass and unauthorised dumping at its two main amenity sites.

Caerphilly County Borough Council sought to eliminate trespass and unauthorised dumping at its two main amenity sites. At the South Wales borough?s two sites at Llanbradch and Blackwood, the public can legally dispose of general household and garden waste. These sites have seen intruders out of hours and regular illegal dumping of commercial waste. Each site has its own Sony Exwave HAD SPT-M320CE fully functional monochrome camera installed, with the images transmitted down ISDN lines, during the day, to the borough?s central monitoring station within the Civic Centre. The cameras are linked to Sony time-lapse video recorders using Sony PMS-400P ISDN transmission equipment. At night and when the sites are shut to the public, camera images are automatically transmitted to an independent central station. Then, cameras are activated by motion detectors. Neil Owen, Caerphilly Technical Officer, says: ?Without doubt, the installation of the Sony CCTV equipment has been an instant success for the council, reducing the incidents at both sites and providing us with an effective deterrent. The picture quality, both during the day and at night is first class. We are extremely pleased with the performance of the Sony system.?
