Total Hailed

by msecadm4921

The Security Industry Authority has hailed the issuing of the 150,000th SIA licence – a front-line security guard licence, was granted on September 12.

Robin Dahlberg, SIA Acting Chairman said: “The SIA has been working hard to raise standards of professionalism, training and probity within the private security industry in England and Wales. In the past the industry was penetrated by small pockets of criminals and suffered from low public confidence. However, the industry is changing. These days you are more likely to read about security personnel working together with the police on anti-crime or safety initiatives; being employed to help the public feel safe. SIA licensing is facilitating that change, and I am proud that an SIA licence is now recognised as a national standard of professionalism.” Other totals: 2,000 training providers offer SIA approved security qualifications; 260, 000 SIA approved security qualifications are held; and 190,000 licence applications have been received by the SIA. Some 242 security companies have gained approved contractor status.
