Enhance Communications, with Tube Lines – the company upgrading some of London Underground’s busiest lines – has selected VisioWave’s Digital Video Security Networks products to upgrade the CCTV Systems on the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines.
Tube Lines is responsible for the upgrade of the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines, handling about 600 million passengers a year across 129 stations of which they maintain and upgrade 100.
The joint venture between Amey and Marconi over the next 13 year contract covers evaluation, upgrade, installation and maintenance of the new communication systems for all Tube Lines’ stations across the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines.
This new investment is part of a programme, it is claimed, to deliver a modern integrated communications system to enhance customer service and provide better passenger information and improved personal security. In addition to providing better passenger information, new PA systems and enhancing CCTV through the installation of modern cameras and advanced recording facilities, this announcement highlights the introduction of intelligence maintenance systems on the tube, the firms say.
Under the agreement with Enhance Communications, VisioWave will supply its digital video equipment, including integrated embedded secured video recording for what the manufacturer calls its intelligent Video Security Network architecture. The first phase of deployment includes the installation of about 350 cameras in eight stations.
What they say
“Through partnership with Marconi, VisioWave is proud to be part of and to contribute to the ambitious modernisation projects on stations and as well as to increase safety and security passenger on the London Underground network,” says Peter Wolstenholme, Sales Director Northern European Region for VisioWave.
