Wholesale Changes

by msecadm4921

Security solutions provider for the retail sector, Checkpoint Systems has completed the installation of its Alpha security devices into all Makro stores across the UK.

Makro, which operates 33 purpose-built cash and carry stores nationwide, has chosen the Alpha solutions to deliver protection to its high-end products. The Alpha portfolio includes a line of security solutions designed to protect high-theft merchandise, according to the product firm. The implementation of Alpha Spider Wraps – secure wrap around cables, Keepers – clear plastic cases, and Bottle Cap solutions will enable the wholesaler to show luxury goods such as televisions, computer consoles, perfumes and alcohol spirits in open-display.

What they say

Matthew Bowker, Head of Risk and Security at Makro, said: “We take the threat of shoplifting very seriously and have made reducing shrink a top priority. We recognise that one of the inherent risks associated with retailing is shrinkage and whilst we did look at a number of other solutions on the market, there was no doubt in my mind that Alpha offered the best package to suit our specific needs and help address the shrinkage problems we were facing.

“The performance of the Alpha solutions will benefit Makro two-fold, by reducing shrink on our most expensive products and increasing our overall profits. We look forward to working with Checkpoint Systems over the coming years on this worthwhile initiative,” added Matthew.

Spider Wraps have become a standard in high-shrink security because their expandable cables allow them to protect a range of merchandise. The Alpha Spider allows a retailer to ‘wrap’ a wire cable around a product’s packaging. The cable is secured in a durable locking mechanism which can only be opened using an Alpha security key. Spiders also have Alpha’s ‘3 Alarm Technology’ which provides an early detection alarm that alerts store staff when a product is being tampered with inside the store, a second alarm which activates the EAS system when merchandise is leaving the store and a final warning when a stolen item has left the store premises.

Keepers are clear polycarbonate cases with specialised electronics designed to protect high-theft merchandise. The goods are kept safely inside while still allowing customers to browse the shelves and visually examine the items. This enables customers to make purchasing decisions on products that would otherwise be inside a locked cabinet, behind a sales desk or require the assistance of store staff.

Wholesaler

Patricia Lacey, Alpha UK Business Development Manager, added: “It’s great that such a successful wholesaler like Makro has decided to implement our range of security products. Merchandise security is more important from a profit point of view than most companies give it credit for so it’s great to see yet another big name taking it so seriously!”
