Course on Visual Alarm Devices

by Mark Rowe

Hochiki Europe, the manufacturer of fire safety products, has launched a new Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course on Visual Alarm Devices (VADs).

Aimed at mechanical and engineering staff (M&E), end users and architects, the free course has been designed to provide essentials on EN54-23, the European standard that became mandatory at the beginning of the year. The regulations aim to help the one in seven people in the UK who are deaf or hard of hearing and may require both visual and audio warning in the event of a fire. While VADs have been a legal requirement in public buildings since the Disability Discrimination Act came into force in 1995, it is only more recently that stricter guidelines have been set out for their installation and performance.

The course is the latest in a series of training seminars offered by Hochiki Europe, and has been professionally certified by The CPD Certification Service. Paul Adams, Deputy Marketing Manager at Hochiki Europe, says: “EN 54-23 marks a significant shift in the way VAD systems are designed and manufactured, and it’s important to get up to speed with the changes. We’re committed to sharing our world class expertise in fire detection systems, and educating industry professionals on the latest legislative developments that affect them in their roles.

To arrange a free CPD presentation at your premises please contact them by calling 01634 26 65 66, emailing [email protected] or visiting their CPD web page at www.hochikieurope.com/cpd.
