by Mark Rowe

Real Estate Management (UK) Limited (REM) has appointed Andrew Donaldson as Head of Security.

Andrew, pictured, will be responsible for overall security operations across the company’s portfolio, including: The Shard, where the property developer has its base; and The News Building and Shard Place which make up Shard Quarter near London Bridge; and in central London, Park House in north Mayfair; and 48 Pall Mall in St James’s.

He joins from Pool Re, the UK terrorism re-insurer, where he was Head of Special Projects dealing with matters to aid the country’s resilience to terrorist attacks. Earlier, he had a career in international counter terrorism, including counter terrorism policing and the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Andrew Donaldson said: “The diverse nature of REM’s portfolio provides a challenge that I am thrilled to take on. It encompasses some of the most iconic buildings in the UK, which presents an exciting opportunity to lead the ongoing development and implementation of the specific security strategy for each building. I am absolutely committed to ensuring that REM’s world-class standard of service and security is maintained and furthered across all of its assets in London.”

And Andrew Thomson, Director of Property Management, REM, said: “Andrew brings with him a wealth of analytical and terrorist threat intelligence experience, successfully advising teams across the UK. His added knowledge of effectively managing cyber security procedures, and proven track record in safeguarding UK national security, will be invaluable to REM, our tenants and guests.”

Background

Talking of The Shard, the tallest building in western Europe, it’s had installed 552 LED lights from 800ft to 1,016ft, with 8,000 metres of cable – roughly the length of 956 London double-decker buses. Abseiling lighting technicians, the highest workers on a building structure in London, did the work for the Christmas season lights.
