Organised by Mansfield District Council, the Best Bar None awards at the Civic Centre recognised drink venues across the district, who have achieved accreditation to the countywide Best Bar None scheme, aimed at improving standards in licensed premises.
Three of the highest scoring venues – Andwhynot, Rush Late Bar and After Dark – will now go through to the countywide Judge’s Choice awards ceremony on October 26, at the Village Hotel, Chilwell, where they will compete for the overall Nottinghamshire Best Bar None winner. To be accredited, venues must meet a nationally agreed set of standards, which include carrying out regular security reviews, dealing with intoxicated people and having a robust proof of age policy.
The scheme, which is being funded for three years by Nottinghamshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner and Nottinghamshire County Council, is administered by Mansfield District Council’s Licensing Team with other councils.
Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Holder for Public Protection at Mansfield District Council, Mick Barton said: “All our accredited pubs, clubs and bars have demonstrated extremely high standards in the Best Bar None Scheme and shown that they can offer Mansfield’s residents and visitors a safe and enjoyable night life.
“This reinforces our Purple Flag status, which not only recognises that Mansfield has a well run night time economy, but also helps to change perceptions of the area. I would like to congratulate everyone, who received an award today, as your accreditation shows your commitment to driving up standards within the alcohol industry. I am extremely proud to have worked with all our venues over recent difficult years and I would like to acknowledge their hard work and perseverance in making a night out in Mansfield such a positive experience.”
