Retail crime day

The annual British Retail Consortium (BRC) crime conference runs at the America Square Conference Centre in London EC3N on Tuesday, October 1.

Among the industry speakers are Phillip Hagon, the former Met Police Commander now Head of Corporate Security at Sainsbury’s; Phil Willsmer, Director of Group Risk Services at The Co-operative Group, and the chairman of the BRC’s Retail Crime Policy Action Group; the veteran loss prevention man Colin Culleton, now Group Security Manager at Next; Mike Marshall, Group Security Director, Shop Direct Group; Michael Phipps, Head of Loss Prevention at Wilkinson’s; Clint Reid, Head of Corporate Security at Marks & Spencer; Andrew Rees, Operational Security Manage at, Asda; and Steve Middleton, Profit Protection Manager, The Body Shop.

Other speakers include Nottinghamshire Deputy Chief Constable Sue Fish, the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) Lead for Business Crime; Prof Martin Gill of consultants and trainers Perpetuity; City of London Police Commander Steve Head: London Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime Stephen Greenhalgh; Doug Russell, Health and Safety Officer at shop staff trade union Usdaw (Union of Shop Distributive and Allied Workers); Roy Smith, Business Crime and Partnerships Manager for the Metropolitan Police; and Robert Hall, Director, Security and Resilience Network, at the business body London First.

Topics include fraud (economic crime), cashpoints, and cyber-crime; a speaker on that topic is Andrew Archibald, the interim head of the National Cyber Crime Unit (NCCU), part of the National Crime Agency (NCA) which is taking the place of the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA).
