Business Development Manager

by Mark Rowe

Matt Hackworthy has been recruited as Business Development Manager for Plymouth-based Securi-Guard Fire and Security.

With almost 17 years of experience in the industry, Matt, 37, pictured, will be assessing project tenders, and dealing with the company’s client base and potential new customers across the region. A key element of his role will be to explore new business opportunities with electrical and mechanical contractors, involved in major construction and other projects.

He said: “I have said for many years that Securi-Guard is one of the only companies I would switch jobs for. They are a large independent business, but have a strong customer focus offering that personal touch, which can sometimes get lost among the bigger national companies.

“It’s that customer service ethos that’s among the main reasons Securi-Guard’s market share is growing exponentially, so I will be looking for new commercial opportunities to further build on that success. For me, that success comes from not just selling a product, it’s about selling a solution and helping to give the customer a tangible return on investment.”

After completing a five year apprenticeship as an electrician in 2001, Matt has worked in a variety of roles within the security industry. Within four years of completing his training, he had been promoted to senior engineer and then project manager with a company in Plymouth, overseeing installation work for a number of major clients, including Derriford Hospital and Plymouth University.

He comes to Securi-Guard from a role in Exeter, where his responsibilities included managing the installation and servicing of security systems across the UK and throughout Europe.

Bob Truesdale, Fire and Security Systems Manager at Securi-Guard, said: “What I am sure will particularly benefit our clients is Matt’s knowledge and experience of a number of different industry roles and I wish him every success with the business.”
