Marine upgrade

by Mark Rowe

Customers of the CCTV manufacturer Redvision can now return X-Series PTZ and dome cameras, including those already installed, for an upgrade from powder coat finish to Standard Marine or Extra Marine, environmentally toughened finish.

Paul Hucker, Managing Director of Redvision, says: “The Marine finish option is not just for coastal or maritime applications. Many installers are not aware of how corrosive some environments can be, such as chemical plants, toxic areas or exposed positions. Applications like these should have an environmentally tough finish specified. However, because there is an additional cost for Marine finishes, a standard powder coating is often used instead. This is a false economy, as the camera will corrode more quickly and need replacing.

“Our unique upgrade option is considerably cheaper than replacing the camera and allows installers to correct wrongly specified finishes. We have been able to make the upgrade cost-effective because we manufacture in the UK.”

The company says that installers can expect X-Series cameras, with a powder coated finish, to remain in good condition for several years. Standard Marine finish has corrosion-resistant plating on all external body parts, pedestal, wall and pendant mounting brackets. It is then powder coated in any RAL colour.

The Extra Marine option was developed for oil rigs, notoriously harsh places, where the product has been tested. The Extra Marine finish has an extra 25 year rated, corrosion-resistant plating, with dual paint undercoat and top finish. Pan, tilt and wiper mechanisms and shafts are upgraded to marine-grade stainless steel, for corrosion resistance, toughness and durability. The Extra Marine finish is only available in white, due to its reflective qualities. When combined with a dome cover, white helps to reduce extremes of temperature in sunlight and the dome cover also provides some insulation at cold and hostile sites.

Paul added: “Sea ports and terminals, coastal locations and many specialist industrial applications can now be retrospectively upgraded to our Standard Marine or Extra Marine finish.”
