Arecont Vision is releasing two products that the megapixel camera company showed at the ISC West and IFSEC shows earlier this year: the MegaVideo Flex and MegaDome 4K.
The MegaVideo Flex is a standard, megapixel camera with 1.2MP, 1080p, 3MP, or 5MP resolutions. The makers say that it’s more flexible than a traditional surveillance camera. The small lens and sensor package connects to the main camera unit over a standard USB cable up to 40 feet (12m) away. One or two optional infra-red illuminators can also be added if needed. This means that the camera is for discreet or inconspicuous surveillance needs, for use in equipment – such as pumps at petrol stations, ATMs, drive-through windows – or for use in museums, banks or hotel lobbies, or in vehicles like elevators, cars, trucks, buses, trains, boats, or aircraft.
NightView technology in the 1.2MP model is for coverage in areas where little light is present. Applications with bright or over-saturated lighting conditions can be addressed with models that include Wide Dynamic Range (WDR).
The IP camera is composed of the camera sensor, main camera unit, metal mounting bracket, and the USB cable used to connect the camera sensor with the main camera unit.
As for installation of the MegaVideo Flex, the camera sensor can be surface mounted via the supplied mounting bracket or flush mounted into a ceiling or wall with the two included fastening nuts. No additional mounting accessories are required, the firm adds.

As for streaming video, the MegaVideo Flex cameras are designed on the Arecont Vision H.264 encoding platform. New Arecont Vision SNAPstream (Smart Noise Adaptation and Processing) further decreases bandwidth use. Power can be supplied via a single Power-over Ethernet (PoE) compliant network cable, or powered from a 12-48V DC/24V AC power supply. The built-in camera interface allows for configuration, while the AV IP Utility tool allows users to configure or update one or multiple cameras at the same time.
