Product privacy agreement

by Mark Rowe

On December 1, Uniview and TÜV Rheinland signed an agreement to marked a strategic partnership. Uniview became the first company in the security industry to cooperate with TÜV Rheinland to work on certification for product privacy protection.

According to the agreement, TÜV Rheinland will run a complete test for UNV network video recorders (NVRs) and IP cameras based on the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (Regulation (EU) 2016/679), that comes into force in May 2018; and TUV 2PfG standard. The hardware, firmware, privacy data processing, local communication, Internet communication, application program, anti-penetration and files will all be tested. Once UNV NVRs and IP cameras have the IoT product privacy protection TUV Mark certification, it means that the products completely meet the requirements of GDPR. Uniview says that it hopes to achieve a world-leading position in information security and privacy protection.

GDPR background

The European Union-wide rule is intended to strengthen and unify data protection for all within the EU. It also addresses the export of personal data outside the EU. The GDPR aims primarily to give control back to citizens and residents over their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for international business by unifying the regulation within the EU (including the Uk, despite the 2016 vote for Brexit).

As Uniview says, with the fast development of video surveillance, concerns about security of video have grown; hence Uniview islooking to make product security a priority.
