Specification service

by Mark Rowe

The manufacturer Yale says that its specification service continues with new socially distanced working practices.

Windows and doors are the most vulnerable part of a building in terms of safety, security, longevity and maintenance, however the hardware of these components are often overlooked, the firm says. To prevent unwanted incidents, it’s important to specify the correct hardware and specify in great detail, the company adds. With restrictions limiting the amount of face-to-face or onsite visits, it’s now more important than ever for specification teams to open up communication channels and ensure project delivery continues at pre-lockdown level.

Neil Rabbitts, Specification Sales Manager at Yale DWS, says: “Like many people during this time, we’ve been swapping out our usual face-to-face meetings with virtual ones, using software such as Zoom, Teams and Skype to keep in touch with customers. Connectivity is vital when delivering quality specification, and that’s why we’re making it easier than ever for customers to contact us directly. We’ve continued to carry out meetings to discuss project requirements and issues throughout lockdown, which has allowed us to specify to our usual high standard and overcome any obstacles along the way.”

Yale says its Specification Support Service offers the opportunity to take a detailed walk through legislation, standards and guidance, enabling house builders to make informed decisions. Yale is encouraging builders or those specifying on new build projects to get in touch to discuss any issues, legislation, and products that are most suited to specific applications for advice on any requirements – such as fire protection, PAS24 security and Approved Document M of the Building regulations.
