CP Survey

by msecadm4921

Professional Security reader Frank Cannon is a security operations supervisor for an oil firm in Kazakhstan, on the Caspian Sea.

He is taking a risk and security BSc (Hons) degree with the University of Portsmouth. For his dissertation, he has set up an online survey about close protection officer training. There’s a basic website and email address:

Please visit:

http://www.frankcannonsecurity.co.uk/

It’s a dozen pages, much of it ticking boxes, some questions asking views on CP. Frank stresses that you do not have to provide personal information.

He points out that Skills for Security is about to review the training and competency requirements for CP in the UK. National occupational standards (NOS) will then be used by the providers of close protection training, to qualify trainees before they get a Security Industry Authority licence. Frank hopes to evaluate the NOS and give bodyguards a chance to shape the future of CP training.

Do you think you need police or military experience? does age matter? was your training fit for purpose? is CP a lifelong career or a stepping stone to another? are among the questions.

Topics range from risk assessment (have you ever done a formal, written one to determine the risk to your principal) to use of escort formations, transporting a principal safely, responding to trauma and medical crises, and use of ‘control and restraint’.
