Lock Orders

by msecadm4921

Leeds based Pickersgill-Kaye Ltd has announced it has secured new orders which will boost its export turnover to over £1m in 2008.

The engineering company, which designs and manufactures locks and safety products for the security, custodial and rail industries, reports that it has won contracts with customers worldwide.

In the USA and Canada, Pickersgill-Kaye products will be used in a number of new build applications, after deals were signed with Axion Technologies, EMD, Ripco, and Supersteel. Amongst the items Pickersgill-Kaye will supply are passenger alarm units and door locks for new locomotives which are being supplied to Europe, Egypt and the UK.

In Asia, companies such as Jiwon Tech and Rotem in Korea, Ocean Eagle Holdings Ltd in Hong Kong and Hitachi in Japan have specified various Pickersgill-Kaye products including external LED train door status indicators, internal and external cab door locks and internal egress and external access devices.

Following the launch of its range of custodial locks for prisons, police stations and other detention facilities in the UK, the company has now secured an order from Malaysia. Its locks will be used to secure cells in the country’s police stations. The company is currently in further discussions and is confident that it will win more business on the back of this initial order.

Throughout Europe the company supply companies in the rail sector including Siemens, Bombardier, Alstom, Irish Rail, CAF and their supply base.

Another product which has helped the Leeds’ company to boost its export order book is vehicle locks for armoured vehicles where it says it has secured a number of orders this year. Also, a recently developed high security gate lock for perimeter fencing around chemical plants, power plants, gas terminals, oil refineries, utility company perimeters, military bases and other large areas which need to restrict and control access, is attracting, the firms says, interest.

Pickersgill-Kaye’s sales manager Harry Griffiths said: "We are pleased by the level of export orders we have achieved this year so far. It builds on a firm foundation of domestic orders in both the rail and security markets. We have secured some very important contracts with major companies who recognise the Kaye brand offers excellent quality products and service."
