Chester Letters

by msecadm4921

Police say CCTV pictures could play a key part in an investigation into malicious letters delivered to businesses in Chester city centre.

The letters make allegations against a local businessman. Police say they have caused a lot of distress to him and to some of the people who received them. Officers are also investigating the circulation of similar letters to homes in Ellesmere Port.

The CCTV pictures show a young man walking on The Rows in Chester carrying letters in his hands.
Detective Constable Tom Silsbury said: “The pictures were taken between 6.40pm and 7pm on Sunday March 6th. The young man was delivering letters. On the morning of March 7th at least a dozen businesses found letters which made unsubstantiated allegations about a particular businessman. We have eleven similar letters from Ellesmere Port.

“We would obviously like to speak to the young man who delivered the letters in Chester. If anyone recognizes him from the CCTV pictures we would like to hear from them. Alternatively, he could get in touch himself. Anyone who can help can contact me on the Cheshire Police Information line, 0845 458 0000 or you can leave information anonymously on the Crimestoppers line, 0800 555 111.”
