As employees return from their Christmas and New Year breaks with new smartphones, BYOD (bring your own device) becomes a hotter topic than ever, says an information security awareness consultancy.
According to research by mobile telecommunications company O2, 28 per cent of businesses had introduced official support for those bringing their own devices to work, while 77pc of businesses planned to allow staff the opportunity to use them to access company information and programmes. But is the growth in the popularity of BYOD a good thing or a business risk? The Security Company asks the question and provides advice at: http://www.thesecurityco.com/news/expert-comment/bring-your-own-device/
Abigail Goldson of The Security Company, says: “Company information will often not be as securely protected when accessed on a device not controlled by the business. Investment in sound security policies and security awareness training for staff will start to appear very attractive when set against the potential losses BYOD can bring about in a company.”
