Drone detection dates

by Mark Rowe

Tavcom Training, part of the Linx International Group has released dates for its two-day ‘Drone Detection‘ classroom-based course. Aimed at the security industry, it seeks to prepare trainees better for, and make them able to mitigate the threat of, Unmanned Aerial Systems (better known as drones).

In late December, the UK was alerted to the impact of a drone attack, when suspected sightings resulted in 1,000 flights from Gatwick Airport being cancelled. Then, weeks later Heathrow also suffered a minor drone-related disruption. The financial and logistical impact on the airport, airlines and travellers (140,000 in Gatwick’s case) ran into many millions of pounds.

The course was featured in the January to March 2018 print issue of Professional Security magazine.

Sales and Marketing Director at Linx International, Sarah Hayward-Turton says: “The responses to the airport drone attacks were played out in the spotlight, with much public debate regarding the seeming lack of a pre-defined plan of action to prevent or contain such an incident. Last year we introduced our Drone Detection course and this year we will run it three times to give security professionals expert advice from experts in drone technology, to help mitigate risk and implement countermeasures to thwart unauthorised drone activity.”

The course at Tavcom’s Hampshire base covers:

· Understanding drone technology
· CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) regulations
· Battery limits
· Drone threats
· Drone detection and counter measures
· Understanding Radio Frequency (RF)
· Drone mitigation
· Tools available for jamming, radar ballistic and capture
· Practical demonstrations

The next course dates:

– March 13 to 14;
– May 8 to 9;
– November 5 to 6; and in 2020, February 11 to 12.

The classroom course costs £375 plus VAT and results in a Tavcom Certificate. For more details and to register for the course visit: https://www.tavcom.com/training-courses/cctv/drone-detection/.
