Dog night raises record sum

by Mark Rowe

The annual greyhound racing charity night run by Professional Security magazine has raised £6000 for Worshipful Company of Security Professionals (WCoSP) causes. That’s a record in the dozen years that the magazine has run such a night, first in Manchester, now in Birmingham. The event on November 28 as in previous years was at Hall Green stadium in the suburban south of the city. Income came from those paying to attend and a raffle. Besides a meal in the warm guests could brave the Midlands air if they chose to savour the races and cheer on their chosen greyhound, and (as in the picture of Roy Cooper and Ryan Lunn of Professional Security magazine) pose for a photo with the animal that won the race they sponsored.

The event organiser, Professional Security magazine MD Roy Cooper, reports that he has re-booked the venue again for November 27, 2014 – so make a date in your diaries and remember to book with him!

Brian Hughes, the Master of the Worshipful Company, was among those there, invited with his wife Judy. He told Roy Cooper afterwards: “I was amazed at the amount handed over: £6000 is a superb result. I know that this is your personal project and that your magazine has made a major contribution to the sum donated to the Trust. I cannot thank you enough. I am also aware that companies, like Andrew’s Selectamark, who took tables at the event made a significant contribution too together with those who donated raffle prizes. My thanks go to all of them and to those who participated in the heads and tails game and the raffle.”

“The evening was fun and the result was excellent. It was a pleasure being there.”

To be precise, the £6000 goes to the WCoSP’s charitable trust fund – details at http://www.wcosp.com/index.php/the-charitable-trust

The trust makes gifts to individuals, agencies or organisations, including other charitable organisations, linked to the provision of security or the protection of people and property.
