Anglian Flytip Op

by msecadm4921

A warning about illegal fly tipping and unlicensed waste carriers is being sent out by police and Broadland District Council.

Police are advising residents not to use illegal waste carriers who often carry out door to door calls offering to take away large bulky waste items for a minimal fee.

Inspector Dave Cuff said: “The illegal carriers often take the waste and fly tip it down country tracks, in lay bys and at the edge of fields. We are seeing more and more farmers having to pay the cost of removing rubbish which has been left on their land.

“We are actively and routinely carrying out checks on waste carriers ensuring they hold the relevant licenses to remove and dispose waste. Those who are unlicensed are being referred to Broadland District Council’s Environmental Protection Team who takes positive action against offenders.

"Residents can help by reporting suspicious door to door traders and waste carriers”.

This advice follows a recent operation carried out on Friday, January 28, which aimed to deter incidents particularly in Rackheath.

Officers from local Safer Neighbourhood Teams worked in conjunction with the Automatic Number Plate Recognition intercept team, Broadland District Councils Environmental Protection Team, Environment Agency, Vehicle Operating Standards Agency and Smartwater to check commercial vehicles travelling along Wroxham Road.

The high visibility initiative resulted in two vehicles being seized for having no insurance.

One motorist was issued a fixed penalty ticket for having no MOT and further processed for having no tax. In addition four commercial vehicles were issued with defect advisory notices.

No unlicensed waste carrying vehicles were stopped.

Bob Wade Broadland District Council’s Environmental Protection Manager said: "We have a number of initiatives underway to educate the public about the need to ensure that waste does not find it’s way to rogue waste carriers but also to inform traders such as builders about their obligations to be properly licensed and obtain transfer notes when waste is deposited at licensed facilities. Working with the police and other agencies has allowed us to target this area where fly-tipping has been a particular problem."
