ASC Business Club

by msecadm4921

A capacity audience attended the Association of Security Consultants (ASC) quarterly Business Club Seminar held recently in St James’s, central London, drawn by the title “CCTV – but not as we know it”.

ASC members and guests were welcomed by Roy Sutherland, ASC Chairman. Roy was also delighted to present a certificate to new member consultant Nick Johnson.

Alan Lefford (Vice Chairman, BSIA CCTV Section and Director of AD Network Video) introduced Mike Horne (MD, AD Aerospace) the first speaker of the packed programme. Mike’s catchy title of “CCTV at 50,000 feet!” captured the audience with his presentation incorporating special requirements for in-flight recording and camera technology – at 50,000 feet.

For something a bit different, Simon Hill (Innovative Sensor Development ISD), talked about the reasons for using CCTV on guns and the special requirement for accurate shooting in any terrain and climate.

Why on-board CCTV has become so popular and how CCTV on vehicles can provide return on investment (RoI) was covered by Jeff Berg (AD Mobile) and Stewart Payton (Transport CCTV Solutions).

Ian Moore (DTec Fire Detection) gave a detailed presentation on the use of CCTV for fire detection and the multi-tasking of cameras. An account of award winning new technology and a glimpse of the future for CCTV was provided by Julian Inman (AD Network Video).

Alan Lefford then led the open forum questions that produced some debate which continued during the delicious and always ever-plentiful buffet lunch and drinks when ASC members and guests were able to network informally.

An accredited CPD session followed in the afternoon during which Mark Stapes (GE Security Fiber Communications) gave an in depth introduction to fibre optic technology. .

Roy Sutherland concluded proceedings by thanking AD network video for sponsoring the event and all those who had provided the interesting presentations.

Roy reminded all that the next Business Club Seminar will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2009. He also mentioned that CONSEC, the ASC’s international conference and exhibition, will run on Thursday, 5 November 2009, at the RAF Museum at Hendon. The theme for this year will be “Strategic Security for the 21st Century”, with eminent speakers such as Sir Hugh Orde, currently Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, who by that time will have taken up his new role as President of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO). Other invited speakers at the event will be Peter Drissell, Departmental Security Officer for the Home Office; Charles Farr, Director General, Office for Security and Counter Terrorism; Andy Blackwell, Head of Security, Virgin Atlantic; Simon Trundle, bomb blast specialist; Jack Case of the USA-based International Association of Professional Security Consultants (IAPSC). There will also be an update on the latest vehicle borne threats and countermeasures.

The ASC organises a number of prominent events during the year, which are of importance to both ASC members and others. Further details can be obtained from [email protected]
