by msecadm4921

Safety and security at events is the title of a two-headed seminar by qualifications awards body ASET.

It runs on February 21 at Chelsea Football Club, London SW6.

You are invited to attend either the morning, aimed at employers, or the afternoon session for training providers such as colleges. Lunch is offered for all. Apply before Friday, February 8, to James Robertson at ASET: by fax to 01625 614740 or by post to ASET, Maple Court, Davenport Street, Macclesfield SK10 1JE, or email [email protected]

So a speaker morning and afternoon is Michael Burke, Director of Research and Development, of Skills for Security on the opportunities of the next five years. Morning case studies cover the delivery of qualifications and NVQs to employers: on door supervisors and security guards (AAB Training); CCTV (CCTV Training.com Ltd); and spectator safety (Tribal Consultants Andy Day and Stephanie Ball). Also speaking in the morning is Carol Handley, ASET Director of Quality, on accreditation of in-house training

Afternoon case studies look at the delivery of qualifications and NVQs via training providers and colleges: in spectator safety (Greenwich Community College); and CCTV and security guards (Accrington & Rossendale College). Andy Day of Tribal will discuss the official scheme Train to Gain; and Steve Cressey, ASET Development Director, will speak about how the awrads body can help you.

New from qualifications awards body ASET: levels 2 and 3 NVQs in Spectator Safety and ASET Level 4 NVQ in Spectator Safety Management – for those working in match day and events stewarding.

The Macclesfield-based exams body says that they apply to officials of any spectator event, with the level 2 Qualification now available specifically in response to new mandatory FA requirements backed by the Government. These new qualifications develop a learner’s personal awareness of spectator safety requirements when working at sports events, parades, concerts or carnivals; and enable learners to progress, particularly if they wish to take on supervisory stewarding, manager, or safety officer roles.

ASET level 2 NVQ in spectator safety responds specifically to the recent FA agreement that all stewards working at Premier or Football League grounds be qualified in, or working towards a level 2 qualification to enable the venue to fulfil the requirements of its safety certificate. The mandatory requirement for all venues to have a safety official qualified at this standard is also supported in full by the Government. Additionally, the Football Licensing Authority (FLA) now expects each club to provide a given number of suitably trained and qualified stewards enabling each venue to fulfil these official requirements and to ensure the safety of spectators. The qualification comprises 7 units, 6 of which are compulsory. It is intended to raise levels of spectator safety at all types of events. This new Level 2 NVQ is based on the level 2 National Occupational Standards in Spectator Safety, ensuring it represents current best practice in stewarding and spectator safety. L2 also complements ASET’s existing qualifications, particularly security-related.

ASET Level 3 NVQ in spectator safety and Level 4 NVQ in spectator safety management expand upon this knowledge and understanding, making them suitable for supervisory and managerial positions.

All three qualifications are eligible for LSC priority funding being listed on the National Qualifications Framework. For more information ring ASET on 0845 345 4857.
