Since the reopening of the United States embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, US manufacturer Delta Scientific?s IP500 portable barrier systems are protecting entrances from unauthorised vehicles.ÿAble to be deployed or relocated for full manual or automatic operation within hours, the barrier can stop and destroy a 15,000 pound (6,800 kg) truck traveling at 30mph in less than 20 feet, Delta say. David Dickinson, Delta Scientific senior vice president, says: ?Since 9-11, the need for easy to install, temporary, drop-arm beam barriers to quickly block entrances to embassies or roads to embassies is a critical program of the United States Department of State. With this barrier, they can protect embassy personnel and visitors within the day.? The firm reports supplying bollards and other counter-terrorist barricade systems to more than 160 US embassies and consulates, and most US nuclear power plants.
