Thieves who steal satellite navigation systems from cars may soon find they are ‘stuck’ for things to steal in Milton Keynes after a new crime initiative.
Crime Reduction Advisor Andra Kemp, with product firm Bostik, is hoping to ‘tack-le’ would be sat nav thieves by offering Blu-tack to owners of the device to use instead of a cradle.
The thinking behind the initiative is that Blu-tack can be used to keep a sat nav in place without leaving a mark on windscreens – a tell tale sign for thieves. This was launched in High Wycombe and has proved to be a success and is now being tried out in Milton Keynes.
Andra said: “Sat navs, mobile phones and PDAs are becoming even more popular with motorists across the country and the problem is that they are not the only ones who want them. Thieves do too. This type of equipment fetches high prices on the black market and despite numerous warnings from the police about removing them, thefts still go on.”
Michelle Hayman, Bostik Senior Product Manager, said: “Blu-Tack is one of the most versatile products in the world and we are often told of new uses for the product. It’s great to hear of a worthwhile suggestion which should go towards reducing crime problems like this.”
