The buildings industry is going through drastic changes, it is claimed.
Open systems and the use of corporate IT systems are altering everything from the way buildings are operated, to the purpose of consulting firms to the manner in which specs are written. Building owners’ demands are placing a heavier burden on the engineer to collaborate and create a solution that will help them satisfy the needs of the entire enterprise. The role of facility manager is moving to that of an asset manager. The standalone and proprietary proposition will go the way of pneumatic controls, and the totally integrated building will become a standard request by building owners and operators alike. So say organisers of BuilSpec Education Seminars, created for the building engineering community including: consulting and specifying engineers, facility managers, building owners, HVAC engineers, security consultants, and mechanical and electrical engineers. BuilSpec is a travelling road show of day-long seminars designed to aid the understanding of this new terrain through workshops, technology presentations, and an opportunity to network with the manufacturers and suppliers of the solutions that have embraced IT convergence and systems integration.
Each seminar begins with a presentation from building owners and industry stakeholders who will examine the trends driving the industry followed by a thorough discussion on IT convergence and its impact on the facilities and the consulting community, with case studies. In the second half of the seminar, attendees are led through systems designs such as new or retrofit projects including procurement options. BuilSpec organisers describe the events as an opportunity for facility managers and the local engineering community to meet the product manufacturers.
