Hammersmith & Fulham Council moved to tackle anti-social behaviour at bus stops, by introducing officers at two bus stops in Shepherd’s Bush.
The bus marshals will operate at two bus stops on the west side of Shepherd’s Bush Green as part of a pilot scheme which began in March and will run over the summer.
The borough’s Deputy for Social Inclusion, Councillor Reg McLaughlin, said bus stops were chosen as they were known hot spots for alcohol-fuelled disorder on Friday and Saturday nights.
"These new officers will work as marshals at the bus stops during the peak periods of 9pm to 1am as a high-visibility uniformed presence in a bid to deter bad behaviour," he said.
"It is hoped that their presence will serve to counteract problems in these areas. The officers will be in radio contact with the local police and will be able to call for assistance if trouble does occur.
The pilot programme will be assessed for its effectiveness on its completion.
"This pilot comes on top of a range of initiatives the council has undertaken to improve community safety in the area, including the street wardens team, safer neighbourhood teams, outreach work and a continuing close partnership with the police," Cllr McLaughlin said.
"This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to tackling crime and disorder, which can affect people’s feelings of safety and quality of life."
