Five V60 vandal-resistant cameras have been donated by Silent Witness to West Yorkshire Fire Authority, to be installed on fire engines. Already equipped with about 35 of the Canadian manufacturer?s cameras, funded through insurance companies and local businesses, the fire brigade uses the cameras to protect fire fighters, to combat arsonists and for training. Professional Security featured the Bradford-based authority in December. Brian Saville, the authority?s Visual Services Manager, pictured, says: ?We greatly appreciate the support from Silent Witness. Their cameras help us to relay the events of each callout, and therefore we can crack down on crime, protect drivers from liability, and improve fire fighter safety. The cameras often enter extreme conditions and their ruggedness and durability is highly valued.? Martin Crowley, Silent Witness Account Executive (UK and Ireland) was on hand at the presentation. West Yorkshire also uses the company?s V100 camera, attached to a remote control water cannon to monitor high-rise buildings; and the V27, coupled with a thermal energy unit and attached to a robot sent into a fire first to locate the intensity of the blaze.
