The University of Exeter has seen the gradual implementation of more than 30 controllers, linked via its wide area network, around 12 sites across the Devon university. The system now has the capacity for 50,000 cards. Not only do student cards now providing ID, extra control has been made available to the authorities, on who goes where and when. Exeter University is in the midst of a œ100m investment programme. Installer and manufacturer Bradley Lomas Electrolok has completed several new projects for Exeter. The projects used an access control system by Assa, which was installed in the Amory and Harrison Buildings, and the Peninsular Medical School at St Lukes campus. The Assa system works on both swipe and pin controls and uses the Lantronix MSS1-T, a multi-protocol micro serial server that provides ethernet connections for computers, terminals and modem. Brein Ryder, Sales and Marketing Manager at Sheffield-based BLE, said: ?We have been dealing with the university for many years, during which time we believe the students, staff and personnel have benefited from a cost-effective intelligent access control operation which utilises their existing infrastructure, Wide Area Network (WAN).?
