CCTV Strategy Aired

by msecadm4921

The Wiltshire county town of Trowbridge was the venue for the latest Global MSC Security seminar in February.

The Bristol-based CCTV consultants are hosting another conference with Safe Newcastle on November 25, at the Gosforth Marriott Hotel, Newcastle. The title: ‘The National CCTV Strategy and how it affects the end user’.

That strategy – published at the end of 2007 and featured in the January issue of Professional Security – was explained by ACPO rep and Cheshire Deputy Chief Constable Graeme Gerrard. Other CCTV user speakers were Adam Crowther, traffic manager at Bristol City Council; and Steve Hurley, town services manager at Torbay Council, on the potential for a 24-7 control room in Torquay. Paul Angus, community safety officer at Safe Newcastle, discussed re-deployable cameras. There was a Wiltshire tinge to the day; the Devizes-based installers TH White being among exhibitors. Trowbridge Town Council commissioned Global MSC, set up by former Avon and Somerset Police man Derek Maltby, to look into the options for public space CCTV in the county town – and the wider, county impact. More central monitoring of the county’s many small towns’ CCTV is mooted.

Speakers

Speakers from among the exhibitors included Geoff Bowers of CBC Europe; Simon Cross of AlwaysOn; Andrew Rosenthal of Navtech Radar on early warning surveillance; Shane O’Reilly of Barco on control room display; Chris Tooke of VisioNtelligence on video analytics; Steve McCullen of Stryker Communications on wireless CCTV; Shaun Cutler of Raytec on lighting; Andy Cassidy of Samsung Techwin; and Paul Digweed and Robert Lay of Envisage Technology.
