A police force helicopter has been carrying out spot checks around schools this summer as part of a countywide operation.
Operation Caretaker, involving the Lancashire Police helicopter, is running throughout the summer holidays and aims to help reduce crimes committed on school grounds such as vandalism, criminal damage, burglary and arson.
The operation also aims to seek to target anti social behaviour where groups of youngsters gather in school grounds.
What they say
Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Carole Langhorn said: "A lot of excellent work is being done on the ground to reduce vandalism and criminal damage and that is paying off with crime levels continuing to drop. The helicopter will enable us to tackle the problem from the air as well – keeping a watchful eye over schools particularly in the areas not easily patrolled from the ground. Regular patrols will be planned in but the helicopter will also be checking up on school grounds when it is returning from operational incidents in the area which means it will be keeping an eye on our schools all summer."
