ERIC Up A Pole

by msecadm4921

Officers in Wellingborough and East Northants have been receiving training on a new tool that is expected to help combat anti-social behaviour.

The officers have been trained in how to use ERIC, an Electronic Remote Intelligence Camera, that can be used to monitor anti-social behaviour in areas where it has been reported as a concern by local residents.

Inspector Pete Chisholm from Wellingborough Police, said: “This is a new piece of equipment for us and something that will only be used where we have been told anti-social behaviour is a concern for local residents.

“We will continue with our regular patrols in those areas as we tackle an issue that is of concern for many of our residents.”

The camera, which is expected to be used across the whole of north Northamptonshire, is different to others in that it can climb up lamp posts and secure itself into position.

Inspector Chisholm added: “The camera is able to climb up lamp posts and so can gather evidence 24 hours a day in those areas that are of particular concern to both us and local people. It will only be deployed where it is deemed proportionate to the nature of the anti-social behviour.

“When the camera is deployed, posters explaining what it is doing and why will be displayed to help keep the public informed of its presence.” You can find out more about ERIC at –
