Detective Constable Alan McCartney from Hamilton Police Office’s Pro-active Unit was involved in the seizure. He said: ‘We are determined to crack down on those who are involved in the production of counterfeit materials and a lot of work was carried out by both Strathclyde Police and the British Phonographic Industry before the search was carried out. We have recovered a vast amount of counterfeit material and this should act as a deterrent to others who may be involved in the production of such material. However, we will not stop at this and others involved in this illegal trade will be our next target.’ Pat Ferguson from the British Phonographic Industry added: ‘This is a very, very significant seizure which has taken out a factory which had the capabilities of making up to 80 copied disks every couple of minutes. As well as targeting the areas where the counterfeit material is being sold from, part of our strategy is to target the locations where they are being copied.’ Investigations into the seizure are ongoing and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
