English local authorities interested in the Safer Parking Scheme can apply for limited grant funding.
It’s called English Local Government Award Raising Programme – the ELGAR Programme for short – and made available from the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) and the Home Office.
The Safer Parking Scheme is owned by the Associations of Chief Police Officers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and Scotland and is managed by the British Parking Association (BPA). It is supported by the Home Office in England and Wales and the Scottish Executive in Scotland. The grant funds will be administered by the BPA on behalf of the Government and will be allocated according to:
The funds may be used to pay the £50 membership fees for the first year for each local authority that is not already a member of the Scheme and who undertakes to seek accreditation for at least one and up to five parking facilities during that first year.
Funds may be used to pay the £200 registration fees for each parking facility where a Park Mark Award is granted, to a maximum of £1000. This is for the first year for each local authority that is not already a member of the scheme and who undertakes to seek accreditation for at least one and up to five parking facilities during that first year.
Funds are not available to meet the costs of any improvement works or any other elements in connection with joining and participating in the Safer Parking Scheme. DCLG’s remit extends only to England.
Applications may be made by any local authority in England which operates parking. For further information telephone: 0870 2 408 489.
