Tendring Business Against Crime (TenBAC) has been credited with the Safer Business Award from Action Against Business Crime (AABC).??

The award is presented to organisations that show they are achieving nationally-recognised standards for combating crime and anti-social behaviour.??Douglas Carswell, MP for Harwich and Clacton, presented the award to the TenBAC team on Friday, March 12. William Price, chief executive of AABC, and the Tendring district council cabinet were among guests invited to the presentation.

Chief Insp says

Chief Inspector Jon Hayter said: “We are delighted with this award. It is a reflection of the hard work that the police, Tendring Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership and the local community have put into this scheme. I look forward to seeing the scheme further reduce crime and anti-social behaviour within Tendring over the coming months.”??Mike Freeman, TenBAC chair, explained: “We are delighted that we have achieved so much in just three months. I believe that the traders in the town centres in Clacton and Harwich are working together effectively and reducing crime and anti-social behaviour through their membership of TenBAC.”??Leanne Thornton, community safety manager at Tendring District Council, added: “We’re in full support of TenBAC and it’s excellent that they’ve been recognised at this level.”??Tendring Business Against Crime (TenBAC) allows businesses to work closely with Essex Police to combat shoplifters and troublemakers.

Members of the scheme benefit from its power to give out exclusion notices to individuals who cause problems. This prevents them from re-entering any business which belongs to the scheme.??Since its launch 12 weeks ago, five individuals have been given exclusion orders, and around 40 others have been issued with warning letters. More than 100 businesses around Tendring are covered by the scheme.
