October 2008 is Breast Cancer Awareness month for IT network and security focussed integrator Secon, based in Surbiton.
With a maximum of 20 staff Secon felt it had to be creative if they stood any chance of donating a sizeable amount of funds. Secon involved two of their major suppliers, Trend Micro and Websense, for support and together they were able to coordinate fundraising. The sales department were given specific targets from each vendor and upon achieving them a donation was made to the Breast Cancer Campaign. This has resulted in Websense confirming a total of £500 and Trend Micro following closely with £400.
Rob Gupta, Managing Director of Secon said: “I like to be involved with supporting the local community and this has tended to be on a smaller scale, however the eagerness of our two principal suppliers in engaging with us in such charitable endeavours has not only strengthened relations but enabled us to contribute to a national charity which I am very proud of”.
On Friday, October 31, Secon staff participated in wearing Pink to mark the end of Breast Awareness Month. All staff members contributed £1 to play ‘guess the sweets in the tin’ and Radio Jackie presenter Neil Long visited the office to auction t-shirts with the proceeds contributing to the grand total of £1200.
Secon fundraising activities in total included the following:
· Sales led activities – Websense and Trend Micro donated money to Breast Cancer Awareness dependent upon the efforts of the sales team for specific activities
· Fun day within the company – Staff participated in office games of which all proceeds went to charity
· Secon involved the local community and other companies operating within their building by having a cake sale and asking for donations.
Secon would like to thank everyone who supported the campaign, including Maxi Travel for their contributions and especially to the members of the community who shared their experiences of receiving cancer therapy.
