ISPs Broadband

by msecadm4921

The Multilayer Communications Group has launched MLC Security, a company to provide secure broadband services dedicated to the security and IP CCTV markets, according to the firm.

MLC Security reports that it is an Internet Service Provider (ISP) that owns and manages its network infrastructure. Its ADSL network has been designed and built to address the specific requirements of IP CCTV and security installations, it is claimed.

"There is very little in the way of secure broadband services that are tailored to the specific needs of security installers and Alarm Response Centres. MLC Security fills a significant gap in the secure ADSL marketplace and will give installers greater choice in how they configure and deliver IP-based security systems. We are offering a range of easy to install packages that are tailored to different types of security deployments and we will be able to guarantee levels of network security, service availability and fault resolution times – something you cannot get from basic broadband access providers and virtual ISPs," says Ross Ferguson, CEO of MLC Security. "There is no doubt that broadband will be the de facto transport mode for security images and data and MLC Security is the only company with the infrastructure, technical expertise and market focus to provide the services to the security industry."

In MLC Security’s network infrastructure – and unique to the company, it is claimed – is Secure at Source, a dual-level network security system that prevents any Denial of Service attacks on customer equipment, the firm claims and eliminates any unauthorised traffic on the network, according to MLC. Whereas other ISP’s will provide a Home or Business ADSL line with traffic "lumped together" with all other users, MLC Security says it has created an ADSL network to carry traffic for the security industry only. This means, the firm adds, that there is no exposure to the external Internet, web browsing within the network is prevented and access within the network is highly restricted.

Ferguson adds: "Uptake of broadband in the security sector has been hampered because ISPs have simply not recognised the importance of this market and therefore have not designed their networks to serve it. Because of this, security installers have had to do all the legwork in getting ‘vanilla’ ADSL services up and running for customers – and in most cases, they simply do not have the technical expertise nor the desire to take on such projects because of the time and effort required. In addition, many security installers have not had a great deal of experience in working with IP-networks and have therefore tended to stay away from it."

MLC Security claims to have simplified ADSL deployment for security installers, making it easier for them to deploy secure broadband. Routers and monitoring systems are pre-configured by the firm prior to despatch to the customer site. Putting routers in at customer sites is a standard procedure, the firm says, that requires little technical knowledge from the installation engineer. An MLC Security account manager is assigned to every customer and constant network monitoring and system diagnostics ensure the highest possible service levels.
