IT Forensics

by Msecadm4921

Some case studies from CY4OR computer forensic consultancy that show the range of wrong-doing to do with IT but with distinctly wider ramifications.

The consultancy was recently involved in an operation investigating allegations of corporate theft. A company suspected that a few employees who had left to set up a rival company had illegally appropriated client information that could cost the client millions of pounds. CY4OR’s consultants were brought in to carry out search and seize orders on the suspects. The evidence gathered allowed the client to dismiss the suspects and consequently protect their company information.

Counterfeiting software

CY4OR were involved with a software vendor who had mounted a multi million pound operation to smash an organised counterfeiting ring. The consultant’s analysts were employed to search all premises used by the ring and seize all computer equipment including mobile phones. A worldwide asset freezing order was also imposed on the ring to ensure they could not spend any of their illegally obtained funds.

Manager dismissed

The consultancy was asked to analyse computer equipment that had been used by the IT manager of a large corporate. The IT manager had recently been sacked after it was discovered that he had been spending much of his time looking at pornographic images on his computer at work. CY4OR were brought in to ensure that all evidence was properly documented and to ensure that the person involved had not looked at any illegal material.

White Collar Fraud

The individual concerned was arrested and charged with attempting to fraudulently obtain money through selling luxury cars such as Ferraris and Porches without the intention of providing the vehicles. The consultants were instructed to analyse computer equipment to ascertain whether there was evidence of legitimate business dealings and to provide a full report of the findings.
