Veracity, IP connectivity and transmission product firm, has launched OUTREACH PLUS which uses the new 802.3at PoE standard, or ‘PoE Plus’. PoE Plus increases available power via CAT 5 (or higher specification) Ethernet cabling to 25 watts.
This level of power makes it possible for high-power network devices such as IEEE 802.11n wireless access points (WAPs), PTZ cameras, external dome cameras demanding heating elements and even door interlocking systems to be powered via standard data cabling, the firm says.
OUTREACH PLUS enables the link between a PoE switch and a powered device (eg. a network camera or WAP) to be extended by 100 metres – so adding one OUTREACH PLUS enables a connection to be doubled from a maximum of 100 metres to 200 metres. OUTREACH PLUS offers a 100BASE-TX Ethernet repeater with automatic PoE forwarding and Ethernet connection with no user configuration.
Security installers, the product firm adds, have been frustrated by the restriction of only offering a maximum of 100 metre Ethernet cabling runs to network cameras when they are used to being able to lay 300 metre lengths of coax to CCTV cameras. Veracity’s OUTREACH family of products eliminates that problem while simultaneously distributing PoE to reduce new camera installation costs considerably. OUTREACH works by connecting it in line with the Ethernet cable to restore the network data and intelligently forward power to PoE devices. Multiple OUTREACH devices can be connected to extend Ethernet connections, with or without PoE, up to 1000 metres.
The product is compact (105mm x 42mm x 20mm), wall mountable and self-configuring. It can be used with Veracity’s OUTSOURCE PLUS injector for extension of PoE Plus and is compatible with many other high-power PoE standards.
Alastair McLeod, managing director, Veracity UK Limited, said: “OUTREACH PLUS extends the family of PoE extenders to network dome and PTZ cameras as well as wireless access points that demand more power than Class-3 PoE (13 watt maximum) can deliver. OUTREACH PLUS is great news for the installer community which is already facing heavy demand for wider application of PoE to cut installation costs.”
