by msecadm4921

Security and defence firm QinetiQ is exhibiting products and technologies at the US Maritime Security Expo in New York.

QinetiQ reports it has been at the forefront of the UK’s fight against terrorism for over 30 years and claims it is uniquely placed to advise governments, the military and commercial organisations across the full range of security issues. Offering expertise in technical, human factors, risk assessment, information and process disciplines, QinetiQ reports it is delivering security solutions and consultancy to high-profile customers around the world.

What they say

Neil Fisher, QinetiQ Director of Security Solutions, welcomed the opportunity provided by US Maritime Security Expo, saying: "QinetiQ has the expertise to make a very real difference in the worldwide fight against terrorism. We understand the threats in both civilian and military environments and by drawing on decades of world beating technology development are able to provide effective solutions to those issues that affect us all, wherever we are in the world. Maritime security has not had the attention that aviation security has received in recent years. QinetiQ has worked in this area for decades and we are confident we can provide a significant contribution to improving maritime security, both in the US and elsewhere around the world."

IED launch

US Maritime Security Expo will see the launch of the SPO-20, a tripod-mounted Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detection system, with integrated cameras, pan and tilt, and operations console. The system provides a portable capability for the standoff detection of explosive devices and their fusing components hidden on the person.
SPO-20 builds on the deployment of associated systems developed by QinetiQ’s Visibility Solutions business group. One such system, Borderwatch, has contributed to the detection of thousands of people attempting to enter the UK illegally hidden in the back of vehicles passing through ports and harbours in Europe. Another portal system allows the real-time detection of metal, plastic and ceramic weapons hidden under clothes and has been successfully trialled at London’s Gatwick Airport.
Ferroguard, also being exhibited at US Maritime Security Expo, provides warnings to security staff of the presence of ferromagnetic objects. This highly portable and flexible tool allows the detection of the majority of known firearms, knives and other metal-based offensive weapons at a variety of locations, including secure facilities and high-profile public events.
Cerberus360, is a long-range diver detection system that detects, locates and tracks underwater threats. The system provides constant monitoring of harbours, coastal facilities, waterways and individual ships. Combined with QinetiQ’s passive fibre optic seabed array, OptaMarine, a layered defence can be established, allowing the detection, classification and tracking of small surface vessels as well.
Tarsier is a high resolution perimeter surveillance radar that allows intruder detection at ranges of up to five kilometres.
