Ovation Systems have been awarded a contract to supply the UK’s Metropolitan Police Service with their new evidentially secure digital video recorder, AfterBurner-2, in a contract worth £700k over two years.
This is the second agreement Ovation Systems has been awarded by the Met. The previous contract was granted for AfterBurner-1, a time-lapse DVD recorder to replace their aging time-lapse VCRs. Several thousand AfterBurner-1s are now in operation with all UK police forces and law enforcement agencies around the world.
The new contract is for the supply of "AfterBurner-2"and related equipment. AfterBurner-2 is again a time-lapse capable DVD recorder that offers all DVD recording coupled with the operations of a traditional video cassette recorder. It has been designed for police forces, the makers say, as it operates in real-time, or time-lapse, allowing 24 hours or more of video footage to be burnt onto a single disk.
AfterBurner-2 has an internal four camera video quad with zone motion detection. There are USB-2 interfaces for local viewing and file download, with an Ethernet port for remote control and configuration over the
internet. The manufacturers say that the product is suitable for long-term, evidentially sensitive, serious and organised crime surveillance operations and meets the Digital Imaging Guidelines set by the UK Home Office.
