Pub Safety Guide

by msecadm4921

In good time for the football World Cup, the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) has issued clear guidance for pubs, in discussion with local Government organisation LACORS, to help ensure the World Cup events run smoothly, safely and successfully.

The guidance is intended as a template for pubs and local authorities to work together in ensuring the World Cup is a successful and enjoyable occasion. It provides a handy checklist for licensees to run through in making sure all angles to running a successful event are considered and covered.

Martin Rawlings, Director of Pubs at the BBPA said: “Most pubs have been planning their World Cup events for months and have carefully considered plans in place. Pubs have a long experience in running World Cup and other sporting events and have built up a detailed knowledge of how to do this successfully and safely.

“This guidance is a helpful checklist to run through just to ensure all the angles are covered. We have shared its content with LACORS and intend it to be recognised as good practice by pubs, police and local authority enforcement officers.

“This festival of football promises to be a great national event. We would like to see Government, police and local authorities backing the pub as the best and safest place to enjoy the tournament. Pubs have a wealth of experience in how to do this enjoyably and safely and will be applying that extensive knowledge to ensure this World Cup is a great success.

“There’s no better place to be than the pub for that big match atmosphere. This is a great opportunity for us to work together with the police and local authorities and ensure the World Cup is an occasion that brings communities across Britain together to follow a great event at a great venue – the pub.”
