De La Rue Security Print has enabled confectionary giant Nestl‚ to make one customer a millionaire.
As the highest value document De La Rue has ever printed, the security of the ticket against fraudulent claims or attempts at counterfeit was important. After consultation between De La Rue and Nestl‚, detailed specifications were produced. The ticket had to be food-safe, and thin enough not to be detectable through the confectionary wrapper. This prevented the use of more traditional substrates, and a polymer was specified instead. Three levels of security were incorporated into the ticket, overt, covert and forensic. A holographic-effect foil was used for public authentication at the overt level and as covert security, a uniquely coded RFID* device was incorporated. The forensic security measure stays under cover!

Clive Evans was in charge of the project for De La Rue: "We searched our technology databases to combine the most sophisticated security features to meet all Nestl‚’s requirements of security, size and of course safety, so the ticket could be placed in a chocolate bar. It was a great opportunity to work with Nestl‚ to produce a one-off winning ticket with such a high face value." Yvonne Richardson, Nestl‚’s Consumer Promotions Manager, said: "We were impressed with De La Rue’s undoubted breadth and depth of expertise in this area, and with the number of different technologies and ideas they could bring to what was an unusual project for them. It has resulted in a successful, trouble-free promotion with one undisputed and very happy winner."
