EUROWATCH, the pan-European counter-crime service, has released "GlobalMonitor", a new service that electronically informs cargo owners and their intermediaries if their goods are stolen while in the care of third-party carriers. Alerted by GlobalMonitor, shippers can access details of the crime incident and developments 24 hours a day from anywhere. This allows them to broadcast information rapidly throughout their organisation, assess risks, prepare contingencies and quickly take action to limit damage to the business and its customers.

Peter Vyvyan-Robinson, London-based director of EUROWATCH said: "Most multinational companies use third-party carriers to move their goods across Europe and this works very effectively overall. However, in the event of a crime, the inherently long communication chain can delay information and the business implications quickly reaching the right people. The threat to the business can be minimised if the third-party carrier has registered with EUROWATCH. GlobalMonitor cuts through delays by transmitting an alert immediately to pre-designated personnel wherever they may be and whatever time it is."

Within seconds of an incident being reported to EUROWATCH, shippers receive an electronic alert from GlobalMonitor via SMS and e-mail. Provided with an incident password, they can access the secure Incident Webpage to see what occurred and where the stolen freight and vehicle now is. In particular they can see what actions the various parties involved are taking – including the police. Details of the crime are shown with a minute-by-minute log of actions. The current location is shown on an electronic map together with any previous movement history. Upon closure, an audit trail is provided which can be used for investigative and evidential purposes, with contact details of personnel and police involved.

Mr Vyvyan-Robinson added: "This service is the first to alert a freight owner to a crime occurring against his goods in international transit in the care of a third party. Furthermore the owner can interrogate up-to-the-minute details about the crime as the situation unfolds."
