Hazel Blears, the Home Office minister in charge of private security regulation, has another topic on her plate – counter-terror.
At the Home Office Hazel Blears will take on the role of Minister of State for counter-terrorism and resilience issues in addition to her current responsibility for crime reduction, policing and community safety. She will deputise for the Home Secretary on domestic security through counter-terrorism policy and legislation, the police and the security and intelligence work of the Security Service.

Ms Blears will sit on the two Cabinet committees on protective security and resilience which the Home Secretary chairs. Through these committees the Home Secretary oversees work across Government on resilience and contingency planning. Ms Blears will act as his deputy across this area of work. Hazel Blears joined the Home Office in June 2003.
